News General Hartford Church’s South Region Has a “Bewitched” Sunday Service

On Sunday, February 12, the Greater Hartford Church’s South Region sang, prayed, communed, gave and continued our series from the book of Galatians.

With another full building, the 10 AM service began with spirited singing led by Kyle Woodley and Carlos Collado. Some of our congregation’s welcoming favorites, Jerome and Debbie Chisolm, made some announcements and led the opening prayer. Jerome started some free-lance sharing about his wife (since it was close to Valentine’s Day) that would end up being a competition among all the rest of the brothers who shared.

Vitalij Staroverov led a gripping communion speech by starting out with the opening clip to the new movie, “Courageous.” In the scene a father goes to great lengths and risks death to save his baby who was in the back seat of his car. Vitalij shared of his 6-month-old baby boy and how protective he is. However, God allowed his only Son to suffer and die for us.

Newlywed Celerick Stephens directed our minds and hearts toward contribution. He took us on a journey to Genesis 13 and showed us the hearts of Lot and Abraham. One wanted “the best land” and paid the consequences for that decision. The other sacrificed and was blessed by it.

The service concluded with a message on Galatians 3:1-14 entitled “Bewitched.” The devil had put the Galatian church into a trance and made them forget about what was most important – the cross of Christ. He can do that to us as well if we don’t watch out.

Following the service, the fellowship was lively. A Financial Peace class with over 30 participants then kicked in. That was followed by a family group leader’s meeting and discipleship groups.
