On April 17, our congregation worshipped together with the theme of “Jesus Called the 12 and Jesus Calls You Too.” Tim Blake preached and provided a humorous and inspiring power point presentation regarding the 12 summer, campus interns headed to Hartford for June and July. He gave a clear message, however, beyond the interns to all of us as disciples of Jesus as we are called to follow our Lord wholeheartedly.
It was then very appropriate when Brian and Sherry Knox shared about the call they had heard from God back to His Son and His church here after some months wandering in the past year. Brian and Sherry are both in the medical field. Brian had initially met Augusto Russell, while helping his son – Joey – with some ear challenges. Dating at the time, Brian and Sherry were baptized a couple of years ago after studying the Bible. Sadly, after several months – they decided to leave the church. Brian very openly pointed out that a challenging addiction from the past had reared its ugly head and hurt several of his relationships – with God, the church and Sherry as well. But in the Jude analogy of “being snatched from the fire,” Brian was to come to his senses through reading a book, checking out other churches and seeing his lack of discipleship and friendships. There was one other big issue to overcome. Brian and Sherry got married in order to go about God’s plan for their life His way. Following several talks, a re-connection with their family group and several prayers – the Knoxes were restored on a fantastic Sunday when we talked about the calling of Jesus. Their return and heed of God’s call has already sparked conversations about others who have found themselves in similar situations. God is always excited about His sons and daughters coming home.
