Most Friday nights, the teens have a devotional. However, on Friday night, May 14, the teenagers were joined by the preteens and parents for a fun-filled night of getting ready for summer camps, bonding and fellowship.
The exciting evening began at 7 PM as large numbers of families arrived at 1417 Stanley Street in New Britain. Well over 70 people attended – some went upstairs, some outside, some downstairs, etc. Every corner of the facility had activities going on.
The teens and preteens began upstairs but soon headed across the street for games. Capture the flag is always a hit and mixing the teens in with younger-aged children was a new connection for both groups. Later the preteens went upstairs for a lesson with Julius Ferrer. Many of the group bought teen camp t-shirts prepared as a fundraiser for teen camp.
While the kids played and connected, the parents shared and prayed. Elder Lincoln Gifford began the night with a time of good news sharing. Following that, questions and answers were given as parents discussed some difficult issues. But the highlight of the night was the hour of prayer. In three different twenty minutes slots, the parents rotated through different groups to cry out to God. The first round was for ourselves. The second round was for our children. Lastly, the parents prayed for the important relational bond between parent and child we are all searching for.
As the final “Amen” was said, several teens even helped clean the basement area. Parents chatted. Lights were finally turned off and the parking lot cleared out.
It had been another memorable night. God has moved in amazing ways in turning our children’s hearts to Him. The Ferrers (teen leaders) the Espejos (preteen leaders) are to be commended for the great work going on with not only our children but many others who visit our events each week. We especially thank them and others for the bonding and spiritual time of playing and praying this past Friday night.
